Atmospheric Paris

Well, it still continues to rain here in Paris.

The sky is grey and it's getting a lot cooler...but Pierre and I are still out and about soaking up atmospheric Paris.  I don't want to go on and on about it...but yes...Paris just oozes atmosphere.

The other afternoon we thought we'd take a leisurely promenade through the city.....perhaps visit Notre-Dame, head over to Shakespeare and Co. and have a little snorkel inside that famous establishment and then head across Pont Neuf for an early dinner at Café Marly which overlooks the Louvre.

It was a special afternoon....and one that we shared with our Australian friends Kate and Amy. So...here we go...come stroll with us.
Notre-Dame....the mind boggles at how they built it
some 850 years ago....we're off to a Christmas Concert
at Notre-Dame in December...now that should be trés atmospheric!
Look what some wag has done to the traffic sign....
across the road now to Shakespeare & Co.
I adore this old bookstore...it absolutely oozes atmosphere...and has lots of amazing books.
I bought The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo
and my lovely friends bought Pierre and I a copy
of Hemingway's A Moveable Feast....trés bon.
There he is.....Ernest Hemingway, author extraordinaire.....and son chat!
I thought Faye's look was classic FRENCH style!
There's a new photographic exhibition in town too
that I must get to...it's called Hollywood's Paris.  Aahhh...so many things to do!
Yoko's book was quite beautiful...
very sensitive and special I thought.
Upstairs at Shakespeare & Co, you can take a seat and play a game of chess...
or just read a book by the window if you like.
Now how good is that!
After our little tour of Shakespeare & Co
we headed up to Pont Neuf....
but first we stopped at les bouquinistes on the way....
les bouquinistes are always a good spot to search for second hand books
and interesting maps/postcards/vintage posters.
Crossing Pont Neuf we spied this special little garden that
one can walk down to.  Isn't it lovely?
And soon we were ensconced at Café Marly.
How could you ever tire of this view?
Oh...and dinner wasn't bad either.
It was...trés bon, fantastique!

  5. What a lovely day out grey skies and all. Shakespeare & co looks wonderful, any bookshop that uses ladders is always an attraction for me, stick some wheels on those ladders and add a rail and wheeeeeeeeeee!
