On the Jetty

Australia Day 2015 and the livin' is easy
Ferries are floatin' and the hoop pine is high
Your daddy's out fishin' and your mama's cookin'
So hush little baby don't you cry!

One of these mornin's, you're gonna rise up singin'
You're gonna spread your wings and you'll take to the sky
But 'til that mornin', there is nothin' can harm you
With serene blue skies and the jetty standin' by!

On the jetty….Australia Day 2015
Hoop pines reachin' high.
Brisbane River lookin' fine.
Skylight glowin'.
Ferry's comin'.
Australians approachin'.
Didgeridoo rockin' .
Just walkin' by!
Frangipanis bloomin'.

Grazin' at The Jetty.
Lamb any which way on Australia Day
And now.…sit back.…take it easy….and listen to the one and only Ella!
Ciao

Robyn

  1. Hi, dear Robyn, and happy Australia Day to you! I appreciated the fine job you did of rewriting the standard "Summertime" to fit the occasion and I enjoyed your guided tour showing highlights of the festive day celebrated on the Jetty. It looks like you had a perfect summer's day for it and found a delightful spot to relax and have a bite. It reminds me of our recent trip across the U.S. to San Diego where we lingered and dined dockside at the Harbor. Little by little I am getting familiar with the beautiful area you call home and it is a pleasure. Thank you, dear friend Robyn, and enjoy the rest of your day and week!

    1. Thanks Shady...sounds like you and Mrs Shady had a wonderful trip recently. Lingering and dining....should be more of it!!!! Hoped you liked Ella too! She does a mighty fine job of "Summertime" don't you think? Shades of feeling and emotion par excellence!

    2. Hi again, Robyn! Yes indeed, I enjoyed Ella's performance of "Summertime." My mother adored her and gospel singer Mahalia Jackson whilst I, as a lover of rock 'n' roll, Soul and R&B, preferred Billy Stewart's interpretation of the song, a hit record for Billy in 1966.

    3. Fantastic. I'll check out Billy's interpretation Shady....if you like it, then I know it's gonna be great! You're the guru when it comes to 1960s music Shady....and, as you know, I'm a wee bit partial to rock 'n' roll, Soul and R&B myself!!

      Ciao
